McHale helps footballer secure not guilty rape verdict

Clayton McDonald of Port Vale Football Club has been found not guilty of rape and acquitted.

One of the benefits of having specialist departments is that we can offer a full, all-round service to our clients under one roof.

In April 2012, footballer Clayton McDonald of Port Vale Football Club appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court. He was accused of raping a woman in a hotel room in May 2011.

How we helped

Our criminal litigation team, including barrister in law Lloyd Morgan, worked with Clayton over a 12-month period to establish the full facts in relation to this case.

Although his co-defendant Ched Evans was convicted of the charge, our client Clayton McDonald was found not guilty and acquitted. We issued the following press release on his behalf:

"Clayton McDonald has maintained his innocence from the start and is relieved at his verdict. However, he is very upset and disappointed regarding the verdict given to his lifelong friend, Ched Evans, whom he will continue to support in any way possible."
