The Russian Delegation visit proves a success

McHale & Co's Russian-speaking lawyer, Maria Udalova-Surkova, made a successful presentation to the Russian delegates who were visiting the UK as part of the Russian Presidential Programme.

The visiting delegates represented various regions throughout Russia from Moscow to Novosibirsk, their businesses varying from manufacturing and dentistry to banking and logistics.  Ms Udalova-Surkova spoke to the delegates about the types of business structures in the UK, the creation of the UK companies and the basics of the contract formation. She also successfully answered numerous questions about the UK legal system and the potential problems and pitfalls that may be encountered by foreign entrepreneurs. Ms Udalova-Surkova's legal knowledge was complemented by the practical advice given by Irina Gorianova, the founder of “Laserina”, a small business based in Sale. Both had earlier attended a meeting with the delegates and the Trafford Council's Executive Member for Economic Growth and Prosperity, Councillor Michael Hyman, who was thrilled to welcome the visitors to the borough and, whilst speaking in Russian, he stressed the importance of all domestic and foreign business ventures to the economic prosperity in the south of Manchester.

The Programme has been established by the Russian government over 10 years ago with the aim of developing a more westernised style of management and augmentation amongst the top personnel in small businesses in Russia. This is achieved through short lectures, visits to the similar-sized businesses and meetings with the professionals and entrepreneurs throughout Europe. Ultimately the Programme is designed to encourage the cross-border trade and business partnerships between Russia and other countries.
