Earlier this month, a motion for leave to bring in a Bill for Conveyancing Standards had its first reading in the House of Commons.
The Bill aims to establish minimum standards regarding searches and assessments of risk for solicitors and licensed conveyancers acting on behalf of purchasers of residential properties. The Bill will not make radical changes to the conveyancing process, but aims to help people who wish to buy a house by protecting them from being exposed to risks that may not be clear at the time of purchase.
