Legal Pathways in Renewable Energy Projects: A Case Study
A company which operates a refuse site is to convert gas into electricity for factory use and supply any excess to the power grid. This was an exciting project to be part of, how could a legal team be involved?
An interesting part of this project was the placing of electricity cables within the existing gas easement. Legal work was essential, particularly in drafting a Crossing and Proximity Deed. This deed was different to the more common Crossing Deeds because the company owns the cables, not the local distribution network operator as is more often the case. This task involved coordination with the landowner’s solicitor to ensure the company and our client, the regional gas transporter, could legally navigate the easement and protection issues. The project, located in Driffield, East Yorkshire, required careful planning to run cables over a high-pressure gas pipeline. My role focused on ensuring all legal requirements were met for the deed, supporting the project’s success in sustainable energy.
