Rob Thorpe – Retirement

31st Mar 2023

This March, after a very successful career in law, Bob Thorpe will be retiring. Bob has undertaken a range of private client matters such as drafting wills and powers of attorney, administering estates and acting in property matters. We now look back over his legal career and plans for retirement.

On leaving school in 1965 Bob was employed by the firm of J Arnold Hancock & Co as an office junior at their Stretford office.  Later, he worked at the Manchester office before returning to the Stretford office to commence his legal studies and serve his articles of clerkship.

Bob attended the Manchester College of Commerce and the Faculty of Law at Manchester Polytechnic for the Solicitors’ Qualifying Examinations.  Bob was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors of the Supreme Court of Judicature in 1975 and elected as a Member of The Law Society.

Bob remained with the firm of J Arnold Hancock & Co as a general practitioner and advocate.

In 1982, Bob took over the Practice as Principal from the surviving partner; the Manchester office had been closed shortly before the death of J Arnold Hancock and the Altrincham office was closed simultaneously with Bob’s acquisition of the firm.

Bob continued as a sole practitioner working in the Stretford office dealing with non-contentious matters until 2015 when he merged with McHale & Co.; since then, Bob has been employed by McHale & Co as an assistant solicitor.

Now Bob is retiring, he says will have more time to play (and hopefully improve) his golf skills.

We wish Bob all the best in retirement and would like to thank Bob for his time with us at McHale & Co. Andrew McHale, Partner of the firm,  commented “Bob joined us when we took over J Arnold Hancock in 2015, He brought a wealth of experience to us and we were delighted to be able to provide a platform for him to gently retire. It is an incredible achievement to have clocked-up 48 years’ service as a solicitor and I congratulate Bob on this incredible achievement and wish him well in his adventures to come”.
